Planning & Design
If you intend to build, extend or alter an existing building, and care about quality and value for money, then it makes sense to consult a professional who shares your concerns. Where an historic or old building is concerned, special expertise is required to ensure that the work benefits its character, fabric and value, and meets the very strict planning requirements.
We are professionals who know the industry and its organisation, working methods and standards. We can advise and guide you through the myriad of rules and regulations connected with planning and building, and monitor construction through to completion.
There is a misplaced fear that designers will impose their own tastes at the expense of yours, but we will develop and confirm a brief which covers matters such as appearance, function of the building, costs, budget and timing. Only after you have seen and approved initial sketches will the ideas be translated into detailed designs. We will also help you find and brief other consultants who may be needed such as structural engineers. As a multi-discipline practice we aim to keep costs down and are able to do this by incorporating a wealth of experience in many areas of construction avoiding the need for many external consultants.
With planning approval in place we will prepare working drawings and technical specifications for construction and against which a number of contractors can tender. We will recommend a form of building contract appropriate for your project and supervise the tender process.
We will manage the entire project on your behalf and monitor the contractors work against the contract, particularly in terms of meeting the standards required, finishing by the completion date and not exceeding the contract price without authority.
