Following this week’s high winds, we got off pretty lightly with only one site suffering from a fallen branch. The top 4m of a very tall pine tree became detached from the remaining trunk and fell towards the scaffolding of the building under construction. Whilst no damage was done to the blockwork, one of the vertical poles was damaged.
The tree was on adjacent land and its fall was broken by neighbouring trees. There isn’t much room as the new building is close to the boundary but the contractor successfully managed to cut the trunk into two 2m lengths and negotiate the debris through one of the newly formed openings. Each length must have weighed in excess of half a ton.
On a separate part of the site, a freestanding pier of blockwork was also blown down, but this was quickly rebuilt.
Considering the number of active construction sites that we have in densely wooded areas, we were fortunate not to have seen other damage.
